He was predeceased by: his parents, Sidney M. Elbert and Curtie Crecelius Elbert; his wife Jean Hurst Elbert; his great grandchild Tyler Elbert; and his siblings, Sidney Elbert, Jr., Ann Eckart and Laura Smith.

He is survived by: his children, Randy P. Elbert (Loni) of Edinburgh, Jim M. Elbert of Corydon, Steve E. Elbert (Rhonda) of Corydon, Richard J. Elbert (Rena) of Columbus, John A. Elbert (Kathy) of Jeffersonville, Indiana, Connie M. Lahue (Don) of Leavenworth, Mary Ann Wells (Rusty) of Indianapolis and Cathy J. McCarty (Roy Jr.) of Corydon. He is also survived by 17 grandchildren; and 30 great grandchildren.
