He was predeceased by: his parents, James Gilbert and Annabelle Levi Jackson; and his sister Betty McCullogh. He is survived by: his wife Cheryl Jones; his daughters, Jackie Buckler and Tricia Hemsky (John); his grandchildren, Kayleigh Greene, Veronica Buckler (Levi Simpson), Elayna Buckler, Max Hemsky and Gabrielle Hemsky; his great grandchildren, Kayanna Greene, Iva Wisener and Marlowe Wisener; and his stepbrother Michael Dale Young.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association in Gilbert's honor.
