He was predeceased by: his father Delmos L. Gates; and his son Jeffrey Allen Gates, Jr.. He is survived by: his daughter Shannon Howard of Tennessee; his brothers, Ron Gates of Columbus and Troy Gates (Amy) of Columbus; his nephews, Travis Gates, Christopher Gates, Brad Gates and Matthew Gates; and his niece Elizabeth Stancik (Matt).
