He was predeceased by: his parents, Homer Barkes and Margaret DuBois Barkes; his wife Grace Anne Lane Barkes; and his siblings, Robert, Max Barkes, Ervin Williams and Betty Benefield.
He is survived by: his former wife Edna Long Hawley; his children, Audie S. Barkes of Indianapolis and Dana R. Barkes of Seymour; his brother Larry Barkes of Columbus; his special buddy Ryan A. Mann of Columbus; and his stepchildren, Bryan Hawley (Angie) of Columbus and Diana L. Mann of Columbus. He is also survived by seven step-grandchildren; and five step-great-grandchildren.
