He was predeceased by: his parents, Philip Hayes and Lida Benham Hayes; his in-laws, Kenneth and Ruth Welkie; and his siblings, Grant Hayes, LaVerne Martin, Marie Dewey, Eunice Trumbo, Marguerite Bryarly, Inez Jenks, Eugene Hayes, Stanley Hayes, Earl Hayes, Edith Pratt, Herbert Hayes and Robert Hayes.
He is survived by: his wife Carol Sue Hayes (Welkie); his children, Greg Hayes (Krista) of Lynn, IN and Julie Bushong (Mike) of Montezuma, IA; his grandchildren, Chastity Bushong of De Moines, IA, Joshua Hayes (Nicole) of Freetown, IN, Shawn Van Rheenen (Brook Blackwell) of Oskaloosa, IA, Christopher Hayes (Jaclyn) of Williamsburg, IN, Jamie Van Renterghem (Tommy) of Oskaloosa, IA, John Bedel of Lynn, IN, Matthew Bedel (Briena) of Connersville, IN and Kalee Hayes of Lynn, IN; his great grandchildren, Jace Towne, Brooklyn Hayes, AJ Axsom, Dakota Hayes, Banx, Bond Blackwell, Addyson, Easton Hayes, Layton, Caroline, Gatlin Van Renterghem, Hunter Yarbrough, Graham, Spencer Ferguson and Alayna Bedel; and his great great grandchild Everleigh. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, and friends.
