He was predeceased by: his parents, Shelby Helton and Monette Helton (Boggs). He is survived by: his wife Joyce Helton; his sons, Nathan Helton and Adam Helton of Columbus; and his grandchildren, Kennedi Helton and Abby Helton. He is also survived by 8 step-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society in his honor.
