He was predeceased by: his parents, James Z. Yates and Estella G Yates; and his siblings, Fred, Art, Thomas "Squeak", Dave, Gary Yates, Betty Hux, Nancy Jones, Linda Yesley and Dorothy Yates.
He is survived by: his wife Sharon Lowry Yates; his children, Eric Yates Sr. (Maria), Jason (Shari Lowry), Mike Lowry of Florida and Renee Yates of Clinton; his grandchildren, Desiré Yates of Terre Haute, Jaid Yates of Clinton, Kathleen of Clinton, Anthony of Clinton, Eric Yates Jr. of Clinton, Shawn, Kynlynn, Lincoln Lowry of Clinton, Kenzie, Kayli, Kobe Lowry of Terre Haute and Mallorie Morgan of Clinton; and his siblings, James "Jake" (Marie Yates), Theresa "Susie" Dowell of Shepardsville and Ruth Ann Meeks of Kentucky.
