He was predeceased by: his parents, Julius Schafer and Maude Schafer (Haas); his wife Ruth Schafer (Sinders); and his brothers, Carl Schafer (Mary Louise), Charles Schafer (Lorella) and Wallace Schafer (Zella).
He is survived by: his children, Marion Schafer (Jane) of Brazil, Janet Anderson (Ray) of Mt. Carmel and Karen Schafer of Lewis; his grandchildren, Cherise Schafer, Aaron Schafer (Vicki), Elizabeth Schafer and Abigail Higgins (Jake); and his great grandchildren, Braylen Freeman, Jaden Freeman, Mila Schafer, Lucas Schafer, Andrew Schafer and Isabella Anderson. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and extended family.
