He was predeceased by: his parents, Kenneth Hersberger and Betty "Lou" Hersberger (Amos); and his pet Scruffy. He is survived by: his siblings, Jeff Hersberger of Noblesville and Jan Riley of Indianapolis; his girlfriend Teresa Riegle of Cicero; his niece Denni Riley of Providence; and his nephews, Raymond Riley of Washington, D. C. and Jeffery Riley of Indianapolis.

“Dave was my neighbor, my woodcutting partner, and a good friend for 20 something years. Dave loved campfires as much as anything in this world, but the log cabin project became his purpose and until his last day. Dave is the Cat Man. He survived more major issues that others would have succumbed to. Dave, you will be missed. There is a fire burning by the creek in your honor with many more to come. Teresa, Jan, and Jeff, Dave was a lucky man to have each of you.”
