He was predeceased by: his father Homer Aaron; his wife Mary Ellen Gereau; his siblings, Harold Lakin (Margaret) and Alice Jarrett (Gerald); and his son-in-law Roger Connaway.

He is survived by: his children, Mark Lakin (Nancy) of Chesterton, Cathy Connaway (John Johnson) of Chesterton, Eric Lakin (Teresa) of North Carolina and Jane Leyden (Thomas) of Highland; his sister Donna Mauch; his sister-in-law Helen Ninke; his grandchildren, Seth Lakin (Kristin), Erin Hurst (Josh), Kerry Lakin (Carrie Ann), Ryan Connaway (Natalie) and Nicole DeMeo (Joseph); and his great grandchildren, Michael, Brooke, Masun, Gavin, Joey and Lia.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the VNA Hospice of NWI.
