He is survived by: his spouse Pat; and his children, Geralynn Smyth (John), Mary Beth Shaffer (Gary), Mark Dembeck (Amy), Judi Imlay (Michael) and Greg Dembeck (Susan). He is also survived by his wife and children, Jim is survived by 13 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the University of Baltimore, School of Law.
