He was predeceased by: his parent Bertie J. Peterson; his wife Tammy Peterson (Ross); his daughter Sarah L. Carpenter; and his sister Louella M. Peterson. He is survived by: his mother Marie Jane Peterson (Pearman) of Cayuga, Indiana; and his children, Nickie McLain (Seth) of Veedersburg, Indiana, Lesley Keyes (Danny) of Brownsburg and Jacob Peterson (Kylee) of Montezuma, Indiana. He is also survived by fourteen grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
