Family and friends must say goodbye to their beloved Walter John Gernhardt of Carmel, Indiana, born in Bloomington, Indiana, who passed away at the age of 76, on August 8, 2020. He was predeceased by: his parents, Walter J. Gernhardt and Florence Gernhardt (Wagner); his sister Jane Gernhardt Black; and his brother-in-law Harvey Black. He is survived by: his wife Susan Daw Gernhardt; his stepchildren, Dr. Cynthia Hovey (Keith Jones) and Christopher Hovey (Samantha); his grandchildren, Gabriel, Garrett, Lydia Jones, Cameron and Harper Hovey; and his siblings, Carole Gernhardt Johnson (Charles) of Lafayette Hills, PA, Sue Gernhardt Shimer (Harry) of Avon, IN and Dennis Gernhardt (Jeanne) of Lafayette, IN. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Services will be private, but can be viewed here. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date due to COVID-19.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Megan S. Ott Foundation, the Alzheimer's Association Greater Indiana Chapter or the Indiana Parkinson Foundation.
