He was predeceased by: his father Samuel Clarence Layton, Jr.; his children, James Alan Layton, Samuel Clarence Layton IV, Pauline Martin and Brenda Jo Feltner; and his brothers, Michael and Patrick Layton.
He is survived by: his wife Sheilia Lucille Layton (Redding); his children, Joseph Paul Moorefield, Jr., Mary Margaret Hampton and Linnie Marie Purchase (Tracy); and his siblings, Robert Layton, Richard Layton and Linda Davis. He is also survived by many grandchildren, great grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
