He was predeceased by: his parents, Sylvester Oliver "Beck" and Dorothy Alice Hamel (Patterson); his daughter Melissa Johnson; and his brother William Wright. He is survived by: his daughters, Laura Hamel of Butlerville and Cassie May (Doug) of Butlerville; his siblings, Ben Hamel of Butlerville and Karen Boswell (Robert) of Butlerville; his grandchildren, Josiah Hamel of Butlerville, Tommy Johnson (Katrina) of Butlerville, Tyler Sword of Butlerville, Brent McMillian (Paula) of Commiskey, Orin Johnson (Aishia) of North Vernon and Kayonna Sword (Kezie) of Columbus; and his uncle Alvie "Sonny" Patterson (Janice) of North Vernon. He is also survived by six great-grandchildren.
