She was predeceased by: her husband Lawrence E. "Gene" Smith; her parents, Andrew Hackenjos and Silvia Hackenjos (Kohler); her brothers, Glenn Hackenjos and Carl Hackenjos; and her siblings-in-law, Kathryn Hackenjos, Lorine Hackenjos and Ronald Kaehr.
She is survived by: her children, Lester R. Smith (Shonda) and Rhonda S. Orem (Jerry); her sister Nilah Fischer (Robert) of Morton, IL; her sister-in-law Evelyn Hackenjos of Monroe, IN; her siblings, Myron Hackenjos, Fern Kaehr of Lynden, WA and Dema Hackenjos of Monroe, IN; her grandchildren, Daniel Smith (Kelsey) of Osceola, IN, Jennifer Hanson (Nick), Andrea Orem and Jenna Orem; and her great grandchild Caspian Hanson. She is also survived by 16 nieces and nephews.
