He was predeceased by: his parents, Newton Caviness and Barbara Ann Caviness (Haynes). He is survived by: his wife Carol Swihart; and his siblings, Steve Caviness of Georgia and Rhonda Long (James) of North Carolina. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be given to Vietnam Veterans of America.
