He was predeceased by: his parents, James Prater and Florence Prater (Brown); his wife Alice Marie Williams; his sons, James Stuart and Paul Prater; his daughter-in-law Jennifer Prater; and his granddaughter Keshia Williams.
He is survived by: his children, Teresa Peters (Jeff), Debbie Prater, Rhonda Brown, Charles Leroy Prater Jr., Timothy Shawn Prater, Michael Prater and Mary Jones (Jeff); and his brothers, Jimmy Prater (Christine) and Don Smith (Loretta). He is also survived by 23 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, and great-great-great grandchildren.
