He was predeceased by: his parents, George Lenzenby Mercer and Mina Lena Moore Mercer; his wife Lelia Marie Mercer (Johnson); his siblings, Marcus Wayne Mercer and Marceline Mercer Burger of Virginia; his granddaughter Angela Mercer; and his son-in-law James Mehne Sr..
He is survived by: his son Gary Mercer (McCarla Mercer) of Florida; his grandsons, James Jr., Bobby Mehne and John Mercer; and his great grandchildren, Tyler Mehne, Kayla Mehne and Aiden Mehne. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
