He was predeceased by: his parents, Todd Harold and Mable Maurine Lacer (Cooper); his wife Sally Ann Lacer; and his brothers, Jimmy D. and Billy G. Lacer.

He is survived by: his former wife Janet Smiley; his sons, Steve Lacer (Angie) of Camby and Jeff Lacer (Michelle) of Camby; his stepdaughters, Kerri Hash (Paul) of Bloomfield and Kenya Wohlwend (Andy) of Lafayette; his sister Connie Lacer of Mooresville; his grandchildren, Ashlee Peters (Greg) of Indianapolis and Jessie Lacer (Austin Shell) of Indianapolis; his stepgrandchildren, Megann Johnson (Joe) of Washington, Joe Hash (Mikayla) of Bloomfield, Justin Hash (Kinzee) of Bicknell, Kortney Hargrove (Cassie) of Lafayette, Logan Alexander (Paige) of Lafayette and Kinley Wohlwend of Lafayette; his great grandchild Emma Peters of Southport; and his cousin Richard Byers (Joyce).

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Stroke Association.

“In loving memory of John H. Lacer, So dearly loved. So sadly missed. God bless. Steve and Jeff and family. Please accept my sincerest sympathies at the passing of your dad. Uncle John was always an inspiration to me when we all lived together in Odon. I cherish those memories and may not have graduated high school without his sage advice. The world has lost a great man.
