He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Vernon L. Hayes and Hulda Hayes (Workman); his wife Maxine Hayes of Bloomfield; his children, David Hayes (Wendy) of Martinsville and Shyla Horsley of Terre Haute; his sisters, Linda Helms of Bloomfield, Veda Hall of Seattle and Betty Martindale of Linton; his daughter-in-law Amy Hayes of Bloomfield; and his son Douglas Hayes. He was also cherished by six grandchildren, three great grandchildren.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers all memorial.
