She was predeceased by: her parents, William Bunte and Pearl "Foreman" Bunte; her husband L. Bill Messel; her brothers, Joe, Jerry and Dave Bunte; and her great grandchild Charlotte Messel.
She is survived by: her children, James Douglas Messel (Carol) and Susan Messel Stephens (Greg); her grandchildren, Douglas Messel (Erin) and Betsy Wendel (Grant); and her great grandchildren, Hannah Wendel, Hollyn Wendel and Benjamin Messel.
