He was predeceased by: his parents, George Samuel and Luda Root (Scott); his son Roy Dale Root; and his siblings, Edith, Jewell, Ray, Cletus, Russ and Robert.
He is survived by: his wife Rosetta Brown of Bedford; his children, Paula "Rikki" Root of Colorado, Sherrie Lovell of Kansas, Debra Root of Kansas, Angela Root of Indiana, Mary Dawn Parkes (William) of Oolitic, Deanna Crane (Richard) of Bedford, Melissa Hamilton (Lee) of Mitchell and Richard Root of Bloomington; and his brother Merlin "Gene" Root of Bedford. He is also survived by several grandchildren, several great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild; several nieces and nephews.
