He was predeceased by: his parents, Robert F. and Minnie Root (Shirley); his spouse Dorothy June Blunk; his son Gerald Wayne "Gary" Root; and his sisters, Mildred Fields and Roberta Kerr.
He is survived by: his children, Tony Root of Bedford, Bobbette Root and Dawn Kluesner; his grandchildren, Dustin Kluesner and Cinnamon Kelley; his great grandchildren, Shawn Kluesner and Bailee Kelley; and his siblings, Evelyn McGregor of Bedford and Bob Root of Bedford. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
