He was predeceased by: his parents, Fred Whalen and Virginia Whalen (Stewart); his daughters, Christine Marie Whalen and Debbie Hawkins; and his brother Robert Whalen.
He is survived by: his wife Louise Short of Bedford; his children, Kenneth Douglas Whalen of Japan, David Lee Whalen (Stacy) of Bedford, Kevin Brown (Debbie Ellis) of Mitchell and Becky Taylor (Greg) of Bedford; and his siblings, Nancy Mahan (Don) of Salem, Roberta Ann Henderson of Michigan, Audrey Jean Elrod of Springfield, Brenda Wright (John) of Louisville, Diana Rogers (Jerry) of Louisville, Dennis Whalen (Patty) of Louisville and Danny Whalen (Crystal) of Jeffersonville. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, several great grandchildren, and three great great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the American Legion Gillen Post #33.
