He was predeceased by: his parents, Irene Merkel and Herman Merkel; and his brother-in-law Joe Lamping. He is survived by: his siblings, Theresa Bedel (Lawrence) of Oldenburg, Eydie Lamping of Hamburg, Jerry Merkel (Shirley) of Batesville and Ken Merkel (Missy) of Metamora. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
