Martha Randall Obituary

Martha 'Marty' A. Randall passed away surrounded with love at Hosparus in Louisville, Kentucky, on Wednesday, August 7th. She was born on September 5th, 1949 in Indianapolis, Indiana, the youngest of 6 children to William L. and Madora M. Rash. During her younger years, she enjoyed honing her "green thumb" at her parents' business, Wayside Nursery. She and her husband moved to Scott County, Indiana, in the 1970's where she immediately took a position at the local newspaper. These two segments of her life defined her existence—people and plants (and later cats and kittens). They were her lifelong loves. Marty was extremely involved in the local community, serving as a founding member of the Austin Beautification Committee, Psi Iota Xi – Sigma Beta Chapter, Scott County Pilot Club, and served on the board/as president/as a volunteer for the Scott County Preservation Alliance. She loved knowing as many people as possible in the Scott County community and thrived with her work through the local newspapers. Much to her children's frustration, she would always have a bag (or four) of soil, multiple sets of gardening gloves, and various gardening tools in whatever vehicle she owned, even if said vehicle was purchased that week. She never met a chrysanthemum she didn't want in the fall, and weeds in a sidewalk planter didn't stand a chance when she was around. She loved attending (and bidding at), estate sales and auctions, finding the most unique things which she would vow to leave her (often dismayed) children.

She leaves behind her three children Ryan (Andrea) Randall of Noblesville, Indiana, Megan Randall (Aaron Almendinger) of Dayton, Ohio, and Meredith (Jon) Alsip of Indianapolis, three grandchildren, Piper Randall, Hudson Randall, and Owen Almendinger, a brother, John Rash of Indianapolis, IN, two sisters Milsa Durrell of Peoria, AZ, and Marian Cole of Indianapolis, IN, and her two cats Annie and Penny who are joining their cousin cats to live out their days in the Buckeye State. She was proceeded in death by her husband, Ralph E. Randall. She was loved and will be missed dearly.

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Scott County Preservation Alliance, or plant a few 'mums this fall where others can enjoy them. A Celebration of Life will be held at Buchanan Funeral Home on September 7th, 2024 from 10 am to 1 pm, with a service at 1 pm.
