He was predeceased by: his parents, Joel Barrett and Ruth Barrett (Rice); his wife Karen Barrett (Scott); his brother Robert Lee Barrett; and his stepmother Mattie Barrett.
He is survived by: his children, Dwayne Scott (Theresa), Bryan Scott (Becky), Gary Scott (Lola), Joel Barrett Jr., Anthony Helton (Tina), Sheryl Barrett and Barbara Newman (Brandon); his aunt Sally Madden; and his grandchildren, Jason, Jeremy, Brittany, Melinda, Stephanie, Joshua, Tiffany, Cynthia, Kasey, Kourtney, Bryson, Bailey, Wyatt, Keagan, Bentley, Ethan and Hudson.
