He was predeceased by: his parents, Michael Steinmetz and Mabel Steinmetz; his daughter Lori Oberting; and his siblings, Louis Steinmetz of Charles Steinmetz and Jean Fugitt.
He is survived by: his wife Emily Platt Steinmetz; his children, Marc Steinmetz (Shannon) of Aurora, IN, Tammy Wegman (Matt) of Aurora, IN and Christy Biehn (Robert) of Aurora, IN; and his sisters, Margaret Tibbetts, Catherine Decker and Janice Wagner. He is also survived by 9 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren.
