He was predeceased by: his parents, Raymond Edward Carter and Gwendolyn Carter Button (McGhehey); his wife Laura Jane Gaskill (Cullen); his grandson Everet Raymond Carter; his half-brother Thomas Joe Button; his sister Patty Lee Lamb; and also Janet Louise Mennen.
He is survived by: his sons, Randy E. Carter (Joyce) of Lafayette and Raymond J. "Jerry" Carter of Lafayette; his granddaughters, Haley Carter and Hannah Montoya (Ruben); his sons, Colby Baker (Yvonne), LaStar Carter and Lindsay Bueno (Joe); and his great grandchildren, Hunter Montoya, Mia Watkins, David Clara, Mary Louise Baker and Winslow Grace Baker.
