He was predeceased by: his parents, Everett Searles and Nellie Searles (Griffin); his children, Mary Searles, Anna Madaris and John Searles; his grandson Donald R. Karst, Jr.; and his siblings, Katherine Shively, Amanda Welch and Wesley Searles.
He is survived by: his wife Thelma I. McKinzie; his daughters, Cindy Anderson of Andrews, Patricia Bartrom of Huntington and Carol Graham (Bill) of Atlanta, MO; and his brother Richard Searles of North Manchester. He is also survived by several grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, several great-great-grandchildren.
