He was predeceased by: his parents, Gereld Francis Purkey and Alice Marie Zetterburg; his stepfather Walter Broshar; his brothers, Dallas Oscar and Jerald Francis Purkey; and his son Gregory Scott Purkey.

He is survived by: his wife Amelia "Amy" Kathryn Purkey; and his sons, Gerry Voss (Kim), Adam McPherson (Jenn) and Timothy Ryan Purkey. He is also survived by 10 loving grandchildren; and 5 great-grandchildren.
