He was predeceased by: his parents, Edwin M. Ake and Phyllis Ake (Hart); his wife Kathy Townsend Ake; and his brothers, Danny Ake and Jeffery Ake.

He is survived by: his children, Mark D. Ake Jr. (Lindsey Perdue) and Ellen J. Ake; his grandchildren, Michael Ake (Megan Morris) and Pierce Ake; his sisters, Cherylle Porter and Kim Weightman; and his siblings-in-law, Eileen Schornhorst (Eric), Jane Antonetti (Jeff) and Ward Townsend (Jody). He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
