He was predeceased by: his parents, Herbert Schmidt and Margie Schmidt; and his siblings, Herbert "Chip" Schmidt and Elaine. He is survived by: his children, Edward "Eddie" Spears and Jackie Elaine; his grandchildren, Emma Spears, Tyler Spears, Meghan Holbrook and Caleb Holbrook; his sister Joyce Vanderpool; and his nieces and nephews, Leann Bray, Morgan Bryant-Spalding, Paula Adams, Timmy Adams and Jesse Headrick.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to his children to help with funeral expenses.
