He was predeceased by: his parents, Paul Smith and Minnie Montgomery Smith; and his siblings, Chuck Smith, Tom Smith and Edna Straham.
He is survived by: his wife Arlene Fenstermaker; his children, LaShawn McClain (Rob), Jerry Smith (Sheila) and Kevin Smith (Julie); his siblings, Jim Smith, Dave Smith (Trena) and Hazel Spaulding; and his grandchildren, Andrew Smith, Matthew Smith, Brittany Horner (Mike), Briana Tuterow (Zach), Anthony Smith (Suzie), Sarah Barlow (Trent) and Chase Smith.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made through the Laird-Eddy Funeral Home to the Guardian Angel Hospice or the Church of Hope.
