He was predeceased by: his parents, Thomas Ellis and Annie Ellis (Wade); his grandson Allen Ellis; his great grandchild Elliott Long; and his siblings, Wade Ellis, Paul Ellis, Harry Ellis, Bill Ellis, Annie Brown, Martha Heffner, Ruth Thomas and Hilda Johnson.
He is survived by: his wife Bonnie Ellis (Elsworth); his children, Barry Ellis-Alexandria (Janet), Elayna Cuneo (Roger) of Alexandria and Leanna Ellis of Alexandria; and his grandchildren, Matthew Ellis (Jaime), Carrie Long (Jason McCord), Anna Austin (Drew), Brian Cuneo (Malinda), Bethany Sovern (Andy), Katie Mattingly (Casey) and Lindsey Brewer (Ryan).
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Alexandria Firefighters Flower Fund or the Alexandria Police Department with envelopes available at the funeral home.
