He was predeceased by: his parents, Ray M. Gaerte and Annette E. Gaerte (Schipper); and his wife Kathryn L. "Katy" Gillespie. He is survived by: his children, Marcia Cole (John) and John Mark Gaerte (Merry); his grandchildren, LeAnn Scacco (Gary), Mark Gaerte (Nikole), Jenna Hillen (Josh) and John W. Cole; his great grandchildren, Piper Kathryn, Bailey, Naomi Gaerte, Jacob, Dane, Kaid Scacco, Fiona Fish and Silvin Eilt Hillen; his stepgreat-grandchildren, Kodiak Hillen, Analeigh Hillen and Ryker Hillen; and his sister Patricia Lucas of Fishers, Indiana..
