He was predeceased by: his parents, Cornelius H. Sterk and Winnie Sterk (Kelderhouse); his former wife Margaret; and his siblings, John, Herman, Richard Sterk, Nellie Mosher, Carrie Koster, Dorothy Sterk and Nancy Sterk.

He is survived by: his wife Marilyn Sue Sterk of Claypool; his children, Deborah (Mark Wise) of Claypool, Lisa (Chad Tucker) of Mentone and Charles Alan (Sally Sterk) of King; his grandchildren, Mariah (Matt Roberts), Amanda (Cody Hudson), Charles Dean (Chrissie Sterk), Charles Matthew Tucker and Bethany (Cameron Beron); his great grandchildren, Trevor, Jay, Brayden, Nolan, Garrett, Calvin (CJ) and Baby B; and his siblings, Margaret Tromp, Bernice (Paul Brown), Wilma Belsan, Brookfield, Ill, Cornelia Moore, Robert (Sharon Sterk), Sevierville, Tenn, Bert (Theressa Sterk) and Lee (Leta Sterk).

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made in his memory to the Wounded Warrior Fund or the Akron United Methodist Church.
