He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Harold Hurlbut and Charlotte Hurlbut; his wife Virginia Michael; his children, Robert Hurlbut, Michael Hurlbut (Erica), Melody Downey (Bob) and Amanda Ilc (Sam Ford); his grandsons, Austin and Gavin; his siblings, Karen Hall (Dale) and Scott Hurlbut (Diana); his nieces and nephews, Julia Novosel, Rory Hall, Heather Hurlbut and Shannon Hurlbut; his great-nieces, Nadya and Elyanna Novosel; his cousins, Jean Tews (Ed) and Patrick Michael; and his close friends, George Kallianis (Elaine), Dino Kallianis (Elaine), Jeff Barnes (Joanne), Glenn Grace (Roxanne), Dale Stewart (Carol) and Pat Winn (Larry).
