He was predeceased by: his parents, Lois M. Hoeksema and Gladstone Hoeksema; his brother Roger; and his wife Shirley (Trish). He is survived by: his children, Robin Ruchti (Michael) and Shawn Hoeksema (Lori); his grandchildren, Kristen Hadap (Kevin), Amanda Nguyen (Hai), Derrick Hoeksema, Alyssa Hoeksema and Criag Hoeksema; his stepson Thedore Pulsha (Chip); his granddaughter Tiffany Pulsha; and his pet Honey. He is also survived by seven great-grandchildren.
