He was predeceased by: his parents, Henry Vernon and Clara Saam (Tobin); his sister Virginia Sullivan (Saam); and his siblings-in-law, Jerry Joe Sullivan and Margaret Saam.

He is survived by: his mother-in-law Ruth Schnabel; his wife Ruth Saam (Schnabel); his brothers, Richard Saam (Mary Alice) of Corpus Christi and John Saam of Galena; his daughters, Kim Edwards of Plano and Kelli Olenyn (Jerry) of Chico, California; and his grandchildren, Donald, Matt, Nick Fredres, Carrie Iverson (Adam), Jeremy and Ryan Olenyn.
