He was predeceased by: his parents, Wesley'Newt' Wilkinson (Newt) and Charlotte Wilkinson; his brothers, Paul N. Wilkinson and Wesley L. Wilkinson; his father-in-law Pat Hough; and his brother-in-law Scott Hough.

He is survived by: his wife Patricia E. Wilkinson (Hough); his children, Travis Wilkinson (Amanda) of Peoria and Taylor Wilkinson (Patty) of Wyoming; his grandchildren, Kathryn, Matthew and Joseph; his siblings, Robert Wilkinson (Janet) of Wyoming and Carolyn Conklin of Peoria; his mother-in-law Carolyn Hough; and his siblings-in-law, Denise Wilkinson, Stephen and Shannon (Lezlee Hough) of Olney, IL.. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to the Phil Wilkinson Agricultural Scholarship Fund or the family needs fund at the Congenital Heart Center at the Children's Hospital of Illinois (OSF) in honor of his granddaughter, Kathryn, who received a successful heart transplant at Lurie Children's Hospital in 2017.
