He was predeceased by: his parents, Charles Otto and Mildred Kersten (Freeman); his stepfather William Gaulke; and his stepsisters, Julie Mass (Gaulke) and Terry McConville (Gaulke).
He is survived by: his wife Diane Kersten (Merwin); his children, Jeff Kersten (Keri), Don Kersten (Heather) and Colleen Kersten (Dave Christy); his son-in-law Matt Thoma; his brother Jim; his stepsister Sheila Lassman (Gaulke); and his grandchildren, Alyssa Rohrbaugh, Jacob Kersten, Madisen Thoma, Norah, Halas Kersten and Grace Kersten. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
