He was predeceased by: his parents, Richard Forrest and Hester M. Nelson (Brown); his wife Frances Sypolt Vroman; his daughter-in-law Donna Nelson; and his siblings, Woodrow Rhoades and Reba Bartle.
He is survived by: his children, Ornetta Gilliam (Fred) of Wood River, Roxie Huck of Wood River, Karen Good (Terry) of Cedar Hill, MO, Richard Dean Nelson of Clarksville, TN, Boyd Nelson (Staci) of Meadowbrook and Randall Nelson of East Alton. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
