It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of Michael James Edel of Wood River, Illinois, born in Breese, Illinois, who passed away on February 24, 2024, at the age of 84, leaving to mourn family and friends. He was loved and cherished by many people including: his wife Margie K. Stein; his children, Michael C. Edel of Wood River, Minna Holloway (James) of Allen, TX and Melissa Appelhans (Travis) of Grand Lake, CO; his grandchildren, Michael T. Edel (Janie), Lily, Jamie, Anthony Holloway and Trustin Appelhans; his great grandchild Ellie Edel; and his sister Marian Dowdy (Steve) of Wood River.

“The Bowers family at Eagle Coin and Stamp mourns Mikes loss. He helped Greg start in coins in 1995 and Norm gave Mike his first dollar at his Wood River shop. I always told Mike I would proudly display it at our shop if the family was willing. Blessings to all, Mr. Edel will be greatly missed.”

“Mike Edel was my math teacher and basketball coach at EAWR HS. He was an excellent role model. One of my fondest memories is riding with Coach Edel to the 1970 Olney Christmas basketball tournament.
