He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Mary Szwedo (Ciepiela) and John Szwedo of North Chicago, IL.; his former wife Elizabeth June Rhudy; his wife Betty Soderquist Szwedo; his children, Edith O'Brion (Patrick), John and Wes (Catherine); and his grandchildren, Julie O'Brion, David Szwedo, Ashley Benson (Stacy), Leia Haugland (Bryan), Kelly Szwedo (Tyler), Sarah Lindsey (Jim) and Nathan Blazewicz (Corrin). He was also cherished by six great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to either the American Lung Association or Our Lady of Humility Church.
