He was predeceased by: his wife Madonna "Donzie" Burns (Nee Lewis); his parents, Harold Burns and Geraldine Burns (Nee Speese); and his brother Robert Burns. He is survived by: his children, Kenneth (Suzy), Ronald (Lisa), Lucas and Victoria Burns; his grandchildren, Sydney, Macey, Cheyenne, Elena Cameron and Kirsty Burns; his great grandchild Ella; and his sisters, Vicky Shelton (Ron) and Janice Mertl (late Duane). He is also survived by numerous nieces, and nephews.
