He was loved and cherished by many people including: his wife Joyce Merges; his daughter Beth (Jeff); his grandchildren, Anthony (Mina), Leah Cousins, Morgan, Elizabeth (Hugo) and Summer House; his great grandchild Beau Strickland; and his sibling Thomas Merges.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the: American Cancer SocietyOr, Michael J. Fox Parkinsons Foundation OrGreater Chicago Food Depository.
