He was predeceased by: his parents, Charles Shaffer and Ruth Shaffer (Chambers). He is survived by: his wife Lynne Shaffer of White Heath; his children, James Shaffer II of White Heath and Emily Shaffer of White Heath; and his grandchildren, Michael Johnson, Xaviera Burton, Bhreana Burton and Brandun Burton.

Memorials may be made to Christ Lutheran Church or the White Heath Community Club.
