Eleanor J. Rogers (Giannola) passed away at age 103. April 30, 2023, while in hospice care at
her home in Wheeling Illinois.
Born in Chicago on June 19, 1919, to Onorata Giannola (Badalamenti) and Vito Giannola (both
deceased). Sister to Leonard Gianola (Val), Margaret Avina, Salvatore Giannola (Mary), Mary
Sommario (John), Joseph Giannola (Pearl). All deceased.
Survived by her son Kenneth J Rogers (Susan) and many nieces and nephews.
Eleanor is best remembered for her generous and welcoming personality. An avid reader and
conversationalist, she enjoyed family get-togethers and meeting new people. She lived by the
saying, “Come as a stranger, leave as a friend.” Eleanor was a dedicated and admired supervisor
for Avon Products and later worked at Waldman Lighting well into her eighties. Eleanor was a
loved and trusted friend to many across all generations and was quick to offer a helping hand as
well as dispensing sage advice. Proud of her Sicilian heritage and fiercely independent to the
end, “El” will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her beloved grand-daughter Maggie who was the light of her life.
Eleanor was comforted by the thought of joining with Maggie again in heaven.
A memorial Mass will be held at Holy Family Church, 2515 W. Palatine Rd., Inverness, IL.
